There is a blizzard in Virginia today. This afternoon, winds are expected to reach 70 mph in Charlottesville. Most people are not thrilled.
The first snow of the season was incredibly wonderful and refreshing. However, this is about the 5th significant storm we have had this year, and it is getting mixed reviews. We are not used to this. Most people just want the snow to go away so that we can get on with our lives.
But I must disagree! Snow is wonderful for east-coasters: we hustle and bustle so much in our lives, and snow forces us to slow down. It means you can’t go to work. Yes, you, East Coast Workaholic, you must stay at home and not work. Telecommuter? Stop it. Tell them your internet is down. Tell them you got lost in a pile of snow.
Then grab a cup of hot chocolate with your closest sweetie, stare out the window at the horizontal snow drifts, and contemplate existence. You have the time.
I love shooting in inclement weather, so this is the first in a series of blog posts of family shoots I have had during this year’s snow. We went to my favorite spot in Old Town, Alexandria, right next to the new Woodrow Wilson Bridge and the historic Lee Street Houses. This was a great, happy family to work with – so brave to tote their 7 month old out into the snow! And look at that beautiful face!
